Worst Allergy Season 2012.
The allergy specialists promise that this will be the worst allergy season of all. This crazy weather will make nasal allergy and asthma worse than usual. Knoxville, Tenn is slated to be the worst city in the US for nasal allergies. Advice: stay on your yacht.
Why Allergies come all year round
When you have lots of rain and early spring, all of a sudden you have all the trees blossoming at once, sending out a larger amount of pollen. Plus we have smog, lots of farms, private lawns and trees, diesel fumes and we eat spices. All these factors make our allergies persist even when the pollen count evens out. Where most live, traffic is worse, so we breathe more exhaust fumes.
The bedroom is a major factor in allergic rhinitis. We spend 8 hours plus in the bedroom. Is it dusty? Normal feather pillows give off allergens. The wall-to-wall carpet looks nice and is great to walk on when the weather is cold. BUT this gives off dust that adds to your pollen and gives you symptoms. Best carpet is a throw rug that can be washed in the machine every six weeks. Drapes can be a dust former too.
What about humidity? If the humidity is above 50%, this breeds dust mites and you get symptoms.
Sprinklers? The sprinklers that strike the house or worse- under the house cause mold to develop.
If it is the tree that you are allergic to from April to June, the cat and dog will add and prolong your symptoms. What happens is that before the allergy your nasal cilia may have been active to move the cat dander out of the nose. But, with the tree allergy , the nasal cilia are exhausted and no longer beat to move out the cat dander. Same with dust and mold. After the allergy pollen count goes down, then the previous dust or mold gives you major symptoms because your cilia are not moving the dust out of your nose.
When it rains, this clears the air of pollen and you breathe well. But the rain helps grass and weeds grow and you have symptoms.
The action of sneezing and hacking due to allergy can continue like a cascade.
What Makes certain allergy days worse?
Allergy is like arithmetic. In a sense you need to add to 10 to get symptoms. For example: pollen 4, smog 2, dog 2, and diesel fumes 3. This adds up to 11 and you get symptoms. But on a smog free day when you are not on the freeway breathing diesel exhaust- pollen 4, dog 2 equals six and no symptoms.
For most persons it is pollen 5, bedroom dust 4, getting chilled, 3 . This adds up to 12. This is why, if you avoid getting chilled by air conditioning or iced drinks, you may avoid symptoms.
Factors such as pet sensitivity, dust, aromatic chemicals can add to the severity of symptoms. Remember smoking?
Do you have a mold problem? With your nose stuffed up you may not be aware of a mold condition in your home!
This is the reason why the allergist treats the other sensitivities, besides the seasonal one such as ragweed. This is also why you need a dust free environment even when you are only allergic to ragweed, according to your skin tests.
Because dust adds a four to the allergy arithmetic, even if you are only allergic to a specific tree in April, you still need to dust proof the bedroom and get desensitized to the offending tree and dust.
Allergy Symptoms at the End of the Season
Allergy symptoms as the season is ending and the pollen count is starting to go down, can sometimes be more severe. This is because the repeated exposure to pollen, even in small doses, can exhaust the nasal cilia so that they no longer effectively move pollen and dust out of the nose.
\
This may be due to the fact that the nasal cilia become exhausted from the multiple exposures, so that when the new pollen comes, they no longer wave strongly to move out the pollen. To prevent or reduce this effect, use Hydro Pulse Nasal/Sinus irrigation for your allergy symptoms. This wave action is at a rate to nudge the nasal cilia back to normal cilia speed. When the cilia move normally they gently move pollen and bacteria out of the nose. The less pollen in your nose, the less symptoms you will have.
A sinus infection may follow a nasal allergy for the same reason. The nasal cilia are exhausted and no longer effectively move bacteria out of the nose. Then the bacteria can multiply and cause a sinus infection.
Caution: using the Hydro Pulse Nasal/Sinus irrigator for allergy works by washing out pollen , dust and bacteria. It also washes out IgE. If you are being tested for allergy, don’t use the Hydro Pulse irrigation 24 hours before testing. Also don’t use antihistamines or steroids for the same region.
