You can be a zaaper. There are no dues or meetings. By becoming a ZAAPER you can personally make an important contribution to everyone’s health – especially your own and that of your family.
ZAAP stands for
Zaap antibiotic abuse Personally
You have heard of the overuse of antibiotics, and their side effects that can harm you . You know that the bacteria are getting stronger and the drugs are losing their effectiveness. You personally can help stop this menace by joining ZAAP.
Why are the bacteria stronger?
Mr Jones sees Dr Smith. Dr Smith diagnoses bronchitis and prescribes a seven day prescription of an antibiotic. Mr Jones takes the medicine, and gets better. After 3 days he feels well again and decides to keep the antibiotic for “next time.“ Mr Jones has taken just enough medication to weaken the bacteria, and now that they know what the medication is they can develop a resistance to that drug.
Later Mrs Jones has “bronchitis,”, she takes the inadequate dose of the nearly expired medicine that Mr Jones didn’t finish. She doesn’t take enough medication to kill the bacteria; instead they learn how to resist it.
Be aware that it takes less than one minute to write a prescription for an antibiotic. But it may take 20 minutes or longer to convince the patient not to take an antibiotic. That is one serious factor.
It is not unusual for a patient to ask to see a different doctor because the current doctor didn’t prescribe an antibiotic. The unfortunate truth is that many patients badger the doctor until he gives in, and takes the 60 seconds to write the prescription. He is aware too that the patient may not return if he doesn’t write that prescription. He may be just too tired or too busy to attempt to convince the patient that the antibiotic won’t help and may even cause harm.
Numerous articles have shown almost identical results with colds, sinusitis, flu, and cough when one group was given antibiotic and the other was given a placebo. And these were proven cases of sinus infection.
Children have to go through a certain amount of colds and sore throats to build up normal immune factors. Maybe with too much antibiotic they don’t. Doctors worry that children may learn an alternate method of coping with inflammation, such as Asthma. Children in West Germany received antibiotics with every sniffle and had a much higher incidence of Asthma than the children of East Germany who didn’t get so much antibiotic.
Of course antibiotics can be life saving and when used properly do a tremendous amount of good.
If you become a member of ZAAP
• You will not badger and plead with the doctor to use antibiotics.
• You will finish the antibiotic prescription as prescribed by the doctor.
• You will not take an antibiotic or give it to your family whenever you feel “bad” and stop when you feel OK.
• You will urge these habits on your neighbors and friends.
• You will take Yogurt and other products to replace good bacteria killed by antibiotics.
Someday you may require an antibiotic for a serious illness. If your neighbors have all abused antibiotics, then the bacteria you have may be resistant to most drugs. On the other hand, if all your neighbors are ZAAPers too, then your antibiotic will probably work fine and save your life.
QUESTIONS and ANSWERS: D.L. asks: Should I only use distilled water for Hydro Pulse™ for my sinus irrigation?
ANSWER: For most patients regular warm tap water is fine. However, some persons are sensitive to the chlorine in the tap water and find that distilled water is more comfortable for them. Try distilled for one week and then regular tap water for a week. If you notice a difference, then best to use the distilled water.
